CopyCatFilms: Lesbians Trying to Conceive, A Documentary

Ready to Jettie

We are a female owned & operated film company dedicated to producing original documentaries, short, and features which combine our unique sense of comedy and real-life experiences.

Since we’re filmmakers that are now going through this crazy process of trying to conceive, it makes perfect sense that we would document it all. Although documentary is not our usual genre, we have always had a knack for how-to and telling crazy stories – this project definitely encompasses the two.

We have found many many informative blogs on the subject of lesbians trying to conceive and one book that every lesbian trying seems to own, but no films…

We want to tell our own story and we hope to tell the stories of other new-to-be queer families as well.

  • Please tune in here if you’re interested in our other film and art projects.
  • We are utilizing Chicago’s amazing lesbian resource, The Chicago Women’s Health Center–a center dedicated to helping lesbian families grow.  A true big city gem that offers an AI Support Group, fertility based acupuncture, playdates for new gay/lesbian families, and full service insemination services–including at-home inseminations. (P.S. ALWAYS use an extension catheter, don’t be dumb, unless you have free sperm.)
  • Simultaneously developing a short documentary about adoption. Since we are adoptees ourselves and know so many people that have been affected by adoption, it seems the perfect short doc to pursue for experience.

Along with all of the details of the process and our journey, we plan to touch on the following topics:

-Family involvement/reaction
-choosing a donor
-being pregnant as a lesbian and is this yet another kind of coming out?
-support system and community
-adoption vs insemination
-costs of insemination and how this relates to the age of lesbians ttc.

and here we go!
