- May 2001: Farrin & Mariela ran off into the sunset together, against the want and wishes of all family, friends, and particularly Mariela’s girlfriend at the time. Mariela and said gf were in an old gutted and boring relationship that had to be sacrificed for destiny…
- For the next several years, this crazy duo traveled the country in search of a home. Living in Phoenix, St. Louis, Des Moines, a few small towns in Wisconsin, Nashville, and finally Chicago. Our mission in this life…to develop the scripts and stories that we’ve starved to create, craft and create everything that makes us happy, and to laugh and enjoy as many big beautiful skies that we can.
- March 2006: CopyCatFilms, our production company, was officially born with the intention to produce short films, and most importantly be able to produce our episodic comedy show (either for a pilot only or as a long running independent project). Filmmaking is no easy task, particularly when you do every step on your own. We have single handedly taken a grip on every aspect of our production company; web design, cinematography, filming, sound, lighting, editing, web compression, and podcasting. Not to mention, we have also taken courses in production, creative writing, and scriptwriting to further the cause. We also work day jobs in one of the most hectic and busy cities in the country.
- May 2008: We had our first consultation with the Women Health Center in Chicago, an organization designed to help lesbians and single women conceive. We had always agreed that we would have kids–through adoption. We’re both adopted in one way or another and felt strongly that it was the right thing to do. However, money and societal discrimination surrounding adoption has made us reconsider the path of having our own.
- Summer ’08: We are involved with pre-production planning for a documentary about Lesbians Trying to Conceive/Lesbian Families. We are charting and trying to save pennies for sperm. Our goal is to start insemination in September or October…
- August 2008: We had our 2nd AI consultation where we received a goody brown-wino-bag consisting of a speculum and syringes! We also picked our first choice donor – a Colombian who sounds a lot like M except for not growing up in the fat midwest. We got so excited, we decided to try and move our insemination up to September because Farrin’s charts are off the chart awesome.
- October 4, 2008: We had our first and second at-home ICI inseminations using frozen donor sperm.
- March 2009: AI-at home #3. Lasted 24 DPO with all early signs of pregnancy (heartburn, nausea, emotional, bitchy, but negative HPTs).
- April 2009: Blood screening for PCOS. All hormones normal EXCEPT free testosterone = TOO HIGH. Doc says it doesn’t matter.
- April 2009: AI-at home #4…
- …so much more bullshit that we forgot to count…
- Moved to a fancy new Green Certified Building. We have our own washer & dryer for the first time in our almost 10 year relationship!
- …more bad news. A shock or two…gutted. Adoption agencies. Dust off. Try again.
- New doctor, big city fertility, runs ten thousand dollars worth of tests to determine that F is “normal.” Weird.
- December 2010: Finally do a cycle with Chl0mid and the first IUI, vial #17–but only one vial because the local sperm bank sucks. Only white dudes.
- BFN…
